Aren’t you looking for a decent person, a person with admirable qualities, a “Mensch”? Because, in your heart of hearts, aren’t you a Mensch? Even though you may have a weakness for bad boys or bad girls, when it comes down to it, you’re really looking for someone to love AND trust AND respect. It’s not rocket science, dear flirtysomething readers. Finding a Mensch is easy; most flirtysomething’s ARE Mensches. Just keep these earmarks in mind — and steer clear of anyone who doesn’t measure up. No matter how sexy they are…Your mother will be so proud!

1. A Mensch means what she/he says and says what she/he means, in any language. If a Mensch says, “Call you tomorrow,” he calls tomorrow.
2. A Mensch is self-confident and self-reliant, but at the same time looking for a life partner — not out of desperation or neediness, but out of a desire for companionship and intimacy. A Mensch appreciates you for being you, not an extension of his or her identity.
3. A Mensch may be Asian, Hispanic, Black, Indian, Russian, Jewish…of any ethnicity or race. While one Mensch may prefer to date others with a similar background, another Mensch may be open to interracial dating. What every Mensch has is common is an attitude of fairness and respect for all people.
4. A Mensch is generous and prefers to err on the side of doing more than his/her share rather than less. A Mensch is not driven by money or greed to the point of exploiting others. A Mensch is almost always a big tipper, and almost never arrives anywhere empty-handed.
5. A Mensch lives according to the golden rule. You can tell a Mensch from a non-Mensch by how he/she treats the most vulnerable members of society: children, the elderly, the poor, the handicapped, the wait staff, etc.
