Unless you’ve been a member of at least one other dating site. We want you only if you have already tried online dating, so you have a true point of reference. We do not want to make claims about flirtysomething’s unique take on online dating, unless our members can confirm or deny these claims based on their own experience!

I’ve been “dating” on these sites for years:

match.com, jdate and nerve.com They’re all good insofar as offering a big list of potential matches. But in terms of the on-site experience, they all leave the ah! factor to be desired.

A new CEO at Match has done a lot to change the image of the brand, and has even introduced a few new features on site. Members are now featured in ad campaigns, the idea being that the “new stars” of Match are its members. And members can also post blogs about their dating experiences. But there’s still no real time chat on Match. Every truly new feature of Match costs extra too. So Match still remains a huge corporate monolith, as much as it tries to reinvent itself as a Web 2.0 site.

As for JDate, it’s insulated by its niche. JDate doesn’t really have to compete. And Nerve is all over the map. Is it a dating site, or really more of a gathering place for artists, sexual adventurers, and erudite wack jobs of all descriptions? I think it’s the latter.

Likely you’ve at least experienced the 3-day free trial on Match.com, as its reach is enormous, or possibly you’ve been screened, preened and had your clocks cleaned on eHarmony.com.

No matter what — please don’t sign up for flirtysomething until you’ve at least experienced one of the competition. Then, and only then, you’ll get the flirtysomething difference!
